The condensed, flat-topped, showy flower heads of stiff goldenrod differ in shape from those of most of its kin. Butterflies and bees flock to the flowers when they appear in late summer, on 4-foot stems. The clumps of large, silver-green, tongue-shaped leaves are also attractive. A delightful, durable, and well-behaved Rhody native for sunny borders. Zone 3. Propagated from seed. Deep 3.5-inch pots. Photo: Matt Lavin, licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0
