Silene tatarica
$11.95
Glowing two-inch spheres of luminous cerise flowers with blue anthers arise on tall wiry scapes in late spring, giving the impression of an allium that's gone red. The rosettes of tongue-shaped dark green leaves do not look at all alliarian, however. Plants thrive in rich moist sunny to lightly shaded niches, and will sometimes self-sow in such habitats. Propagated from seed. Deep 3.5-inch containers. Zone 5.
Part shade to sun; moist humus-rich soil; 2'x1'; late spring to early summer
