Manfreda virginica
Our native eastern North American agave, a curious and captivating thing with the usual agavian spear-shaped leaves but with a deciduous lifestyle. In summer, fragrant tubular green flowers appear atop tall stems, seducing pollinating moths. The foliage is often purple-splotched. Great conversation piece for a sunny or lightly shaded niche.
