Aster tataricus 'Jindai'
An architectural aster, 'Jindai' sends up handsome clumps of bold, lettuce-shaped leaves in spring, and tall stalks lined with mid-lavender-blue flowers in fall. Its height (5 feet) and spread (3-4 feet) are less than those of typical Tartarian aster. Give it dry to average soil and full sun. Zone 4. Propagated from divisions. Deep 3.5-inch pots.
