Weed-smothering mats of strawberry-shaped leaves are spangled in spring with sunny yellow flowers that often repeat later in the season. This tough-as-nails ground cover is as adaptable and useful as it is beautiful. Botanists have now decided it's a Geum, but it's going to take a while for that change to get traction. Zone 4.
