Numerous North American goldenrods make splendid garden plants, none more so than this woodlander, which lights up the shade garden in late summer and fall with numerous bright yellow flowers that cluster at the tips and axils of upright, zigzagging stems. For naturalizing on a woodland edge or for combining with ferns and other native woodlanders, few plants can equal it. Spreads moderately by rhizomes (and may also self-sow).
Shade; average to moist, humus-rich soil; 2'x2'; late summer to fall; RI native; Zone 4
Propagated from seed; deep 3.5-inch pots
