Blue flowers can be scarce in midsummer -- but not if you have this tough, attractive, shade-tolerant skullcap. It's indispensable for informal perennial borders, cottage gardens, wildflower plantings, and similar garden niches. The clusters of numerous small hooded violet-blue flowers open on 3-foot stems in July and August, just when they're most needed. A clump-former, it spreads primarily by seed. Zone 3. Propagated from seed. 3.5-inch pots. Photo: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User: 松岡明芳, licensed under           CC BY-SA 3.0
