A rare endemic of shale barrens and other hostile habitats in the mid-Appalachians, this rarely offered evening primrose is as beautiful as it is tough. Spires of lemon-yellow flowers on 4-foot stems continue for much of the summer. The basal leaves take on fiery tints in fall. Often described as biennial, but our plants (from accurately identified seed) stay around for longer. Photo: Doppelbrau , licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0
