With its handsome toothed leaves, yellow fall color, and terminal clusters of orange-capsuled, red-fleshed seeds (on female plants), our native bittersweet offers many ornamental virtues, and makes a refreshing change from climbing hydrangea and the like as a large vine for partial shade. Not invasive like the introduced Asian bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus). C & E North America. Zone 3. Unsexed seedlings. Deep 3.5-inch pots.
