Actaea rubifolia
Perhaps our favorite bugbane, much admired here for its dense compact habit, its frothy white spires in late summer, and its bold maple-like leaves that recall those of Rubus odoratus (thus the specific epithet). A local endemic of the Southeast and southern Central U.S., it has several disjunct, farflung populations in the wild. Seedlings. 3.5-inch pots. Zone 5.
